In this article we are going to describe all the features and technologies of Silky saws.
SILKY TECHNOLOGY
of the series make yourself comfortable because it will be a long read

Each saw has its own particular technology, here you can see its characteristics!
- 4-RETSUME: Silky saws with 4-RETSUME teeth belong to the category of the fastest hand saws on the market, and are very well suited to the most difficult jobs . The teeth are ground in only one way so that each of the 4 teeth in a row form a combination. This not only leaves a very smooth and polished plant but also allows perfect sawdust discharge .
-
NOT ADJUSTED TEETH:
The teeth are precisely ground into the blade, each with 4 cutting surfaces. The teeth are "unregulated" (in comparison to a classic Western saw), so that the cutting surface cuts directly into the wood and destroys approximately 50% fewer wood cells in the operation. The blades are polished to a biconcave shape: the bottom part of the blade (near the teeth) is thicker, while the top part is slightly thinner and the blade is thinner in the middle. This design has several advantages:
- Cutting with a saw requires less force : the tool is extremely fast
- Discharges sawdust effortlessly - it doesn't get stuck in the wood
- The cut is very clean : without breaking or tearing the wood, it hardly shatters and creates a very refined and smooth cut.
- INDUCTION HARDENING: The ends of the gear are heated to a very high temperature in just a few seconds. While only the end (or in other words the cutting part) of the tooth is heated, the rest maintains its cutting quality but also its flexibility. Induction hardened teeth last three times that of untreated teeth . They cannot be sharpened and are recognizable by their black tooth tips.
- LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY: The limited lifetime warranty covers defects in material and workmanship . This does not include damage caused by transportation, misuse, abuse, and/or normal wear and tear of parts. The product must be delivered to the nearest service or sales office to evaluate its warranty. Shipping and handling charges are not covered by the warranty. If possible, a product eligible for warranty evaluation will be repaired promptly. This warranty applies to NON-COMMERCIAL USE only.

iF Product Design GOLD Award 2012: Award for excellent design
G-mark design award awarded by the “ Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization” .
- GENKI HANDLE: A number of Silky saws (Tsurugi – Table Noco – Temagari) and hatchets/machetes (Nata – Ono – Yoki) are equipped with the unique Genki handle. It consists of two parts that can be removed from the blade and placed in a new one without using tools. The Genki rubber handle absorbs vibrations as much as possible when cutting with the saw as there are no screws or bolts attached that could promote vibrations. The Genki handle offers a better grip , even in humid conditions or while wearing gloves.
- ABLE TO BE FILED: When the teeth are not induction hardened, they can be filed with the special Silk y file .
- CHROME BLADE: The chrome plating on the saw blade makes its surface extremely hard and long-lasting , reducing friction and increasing the lifespan of the blade. Additionally, chrome plating protects the blade from rust and resin . Before applying it, Silky polishes the blade and makes it silky smooth. This causes the blade to encounter even less resistance in the wood during the cutting action.
- GOM RUBBER HANDLE: The GOM rubber handle absorbs saw cutting vibrations and provides a better grip , even in humid conditions or while wearing gloves. Furthermore, this handle makes you feel warm even in extremely cold temperatures.
- MIRAI-ME: The razor-sharp teeth are ground into the blade precisely, each with 3 cutting edges and an extremely smooth surface as a result. For optimal sawdust output , one of the many teeth (depending on the saw model) has been sharpened towards the outside. This unrivaled patented MIRAI-ME technology makes it possible to use the saw for 3 types of cuts : transverse cut ( perpendicular to the grain ), longitudinal cut (i.e. parallel to the direction of the grain ), and diagonal cut. During pruning, the smooth cut of the saw will allow you to tear the overgrown plant easily. Inside the woodshop, the smooth saw cut gives a refined finish, so sanding is not as necessary.
- NICKEL COATING
- SILKY TECHNOLOGY: Silky saw blades are made of Authentic Premium Japanese steel and laser cut. The blades are of unrivaled quality: they are very hard and resistant, but at the same time remain flexible thanks to the soft metal core.
- Strong and wear resistant The chemical composition of the metal combined with the heating and cooling process alone determines the high hardness of the metal . The high carbon content leads to a high wear resistance , so that the sharpness remains for a long time.
- Soft and flexible By forging the saws in this way, the tooth core of the tool is made of a soft metal which allows the saw to remain flexible and grip the wood with ease . Additionally, several models, such as the Sugoi, Hayate, and Tsurugi, are made of high-alloy steel, which makes the saw blade stronger, more resistant to corrosion, and better equipped against temperature variations. All blades are replaceable and the replacement itself is simple.
BUT IT DIDN'T END HERE!
HANDLE
Silky uses three, this affects how the teeth grip the wood, the bigger the angle the better the saw cuts above shoulder height.
Straight handle | With a straight handle you can guide the holding of the wood from the point where you hold the handle. By keeping it close to the blade, less tension is applied to the blade, allowing you to saw with extreme precision and control . Wood loss will be minimal. If you hold the handle further from the blade, there will be more tension on the blade. The cut can be fully used but will be less precise . |
Revolver grip | This handle offers a perfect angle between the saw and your wrist as you cut. Cutting requires less effort and less vibrations are created. Since the grip is in line with the wrist, the carpal tunnel is not removed. |
Intermediate | It combines both styles. You will still be able to hold the wood and the handle allows you an ergonomic angle between the saw and your wrist. |
TEETH CONFIGURATION
- Silky uses teeth ranging from very thin to very wide.
Wide and very wide - 4 to 8 teeth per 30 mm
|
Saws with wide teeth cut faster and more aggressively . The wide configuration is in fact developed for fresh wood , which grows quickly, with a lot of moisture in the wood cells. The very wide configuration is particularly ideal for tougher jobs, such as felling trees or sawing sturdy tree trunks . When you cut dry wood with very wide teeth, they will have difficulty gripping the wood and will cause strong vibrations. |
Medium - 10 teeth per 30 mm
|
The medium tooth configuration is truly versatile . Cutting with a 10 tooth configuration is suitable for both dry and fresh wood . |
Thin and very thin - 13 to 32 teeth per 30 mm
|
The thin tooth configuration is particularly suitable for dry wood or wood that has less moisture in the wood cells, such as apple and oak. Very fine serration, such as 26 or 32 teeth, is specially designed for woodworkers making furniture or instrument makers. When you cut fresh wood with very fine teeth, the teeth will be filled very quickly. |
Blades with different tooth configurations within a given series of saws (such as the Pocketboy) are interchangeable within the same blade length.
LENGTH
Silky has blades available with a length ranging from 13 cm to 65 cm. The preferred blade length depends on the diameter of the wood. It is generally argued that the blade should be at least twice as large as the diameter of the material to be cut . For example, if you are planning to saw an 8cm branch, you will need a blade of at least 16cm.
STRAIGHT AND CURVED PROFILE
There are saws with straight blades and curved blades that are used in different situations.

Straight profile | The straight blade gives a very clean cut with more precision than a curved blade. Straight blades are ideal for detailed pruning tasks. Bush craftsmen use straight blades to make precision cuts while constructing shelters, traps, and tools. |
Curved profile | The curved blade cuts faster and more aggressively than the straight one. While you are working above shoulder height and below the knees, you can still saw at the top of the branch without further effort , while your arm, wrist and hand remain in their natural position. Furthermore, you can easily see when the end of the cut is reached. This makes your work more efficient , even in more complicated circumstances. |
CUTTING POSITIONS
Almost all folding saws from Silky can be used in two locking settings. By pressing your thumb on the spring-loaded blade lock, the saw can be opened and folded and, once opened, allows you to choose between two available blade positions . When opening, the saw can be fixed in the most ideal position according to each situation, thanks to two notches in the blade. The first notch is suitable for a more ergonomic cutting position . The second notch offers the ability to saw on a flat surface while keeping your knuckles clear and allowing you to use the full length of the blade on the handle .
The locking mechanism is very strong and provides some security while you are using the saw. There is no slack , which is critical to sending all your energy into the blade.
