The original 4-Max was a showstopper, but it proved difficult and expensive to produce on short notice.
This is why the 4-Max Scout was born, much more convenient and easier to produce and a worthy heir to the original!
It passed all the shock and impact tests and continued to hold 270 kg without damage, a real bomb in terms of resistance, tenacity and potential!
TRI-AD LOCK LOCKING SYSTEM
Cold Steel is perhaps best known for its invention of the Tri-Ad lock , which has proven through rigorous torture testing to be the most secure folding knife locking system on the market. Designed by the genius of Andrew Demko, it resists up to 360 kg of pressure!
- The blade rests on the solid stop pin, which transmits the force applied to it to the frame.
- There is extra space to allow the balance wheel to drop deeper into the notch, to compensate for the effects of time and wear.
- The entire surface of the blade block and tang fit flush together. The slightly angled block tends to force the block inward under pressure rather than outward, thus better blocking the blade when stressed.
- The balance pin hole is made with extra space on both sides to allow for self-adjustment over time.
STOP PIN
Distributes the load of all positive and negative vertical pressures on the block system.
The pin receives all the positive pressure , which comes from the cutting edge, and transfers it to the grip frame where it can be effectively absorbed.
The negative pressures produced by unusual activities such as leveraging, drilling, digging etc. are instead distributed because the pin receives the forward pressure and transfers it to the liners that protect the block from failure .
SELF-REGULATION
The Tri-Ad Lock locking system, in addition to protecting the mechanism from the accumulation of lint, requires very little maintenance.
Designed to self-adjust as parts begin to wear over time, the Tri-Ad's design will allow it to adjust so that the lock bar always fits deeply between the stop pin and the notch in the tang.
This way you have a very safe and secure long-term locking.
