Nel 1854, un certo dottor Browne inventò una medicina per la tosse e ne spedì un po' alle truppe britanniche che soffrivano nelle trincee durante la guerra di Crimea. 60 anni dopo, Dr Browne's Cough Bottle diede le iniziali di una società registrata, BCB.
Rilevata da un chimico locale di Cardiff, Deryck Howell, nel 1949, BCB rimane ancora oggi un'azienda a conduzione familiare.
